Long Island Chapter November Meeting: Business Valuation. The November Chapter Meeting of ASA Chapter 72, Long Island, will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at the Milleridge Inn. The Chapter Meeting at 6:30 p.m. follows the 5:30 p.m. Board Meeting. The guest speakers will be candidate members Edward G. Donnelly, CPA, PC and Stephen A. Linker, CPA, DABFA. They will examine the implications for business valuation appraisers of the much-discussed Case of Gross v. Commissioner. The case, which dealt with the taxation of Sub S corporations and appropriate valuation techniques, originated in the Tax Court in 2001, and wound up in the U.S. Court of Appeals. Mr. Donnelly will also talk about a case where the trail of mysteriously invested cash led to the solution of an unsolved Queens, NY murder. Mr. Linker will talk about an engagement in which he discovered a second set of accounting records after the NYC murder of a restaurant manager. Dinner is $25 for members and guests. Mentoring for Personal Property Candidates. Frances Zeman, ASA, chair of ASA's Personal Property Committee and Director of Appraisal Resource Associates, Inc., will conduct a seminar sponsored by New Jersey Chapter 73 on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in Secaucus, NJ for personal property candidates seeking their AM and ASA designations. Ms. Zeman will review the AM and ASA requirements and the documentation needed to substantiate experience. She'll also discuss report writing and exam preparation. Chapter 30's Fran Zeman on NBC's Today Show Fran Zeman, ASA, an active member of NYC Chapter 30, and chair of the ASA Personal Property Committee, ASA International Conference. The annual ASA International Conference convenes in Tampa, Florida this year from July 14, 2003 through July 16. Keynote speaker, Z.
